Why it matters

Today, U.S. labels must call out wheat — but barley and rye, which also contain gluten, can hide behind names like "malt extract" or "natural flavor." Families like ours read every label, every time, and still have to guess.

Why it matters

Food labels list allergens. Medications don't have to. Over 1,000 inactive ingredients are used in pills and capsules today, and dozens have caused allergic reactions — including gluten from wheat starch used as a filler or coating.
